Patreon, Gumroad, store, and new comic... ooh so much is going onn

Hola amigos, I now have a Patreon site, as well as a Gumroad! Also, in addition to the Society6 and Redbubble accounts I opened before, I have a bona fide real store where I am selling original art and books now.
Whoopeedooo  :D
You can pledge to my Patreon on a monthly cycle; the pledge amounts start from $1 and can be any amount you wish. Depending on your pledge level, you can get anything from behind-the-scenes sketches and early looks at the comics that I release, to layered PSDs of my illustrations.

My plan this year, and hopefully beyond (if the ideas keep on coming), is to make lots of short comics and books. If you could support me in making these stories, whether through Patreon or by buying the completed comics, it would mean the world to me. I want to make the best comics I possibly can, and I'm really excited for all of these projects!!

Unfortunately this means that my webcomic Shaman Child might be put on hold for a while, but I believe this is the right way to go. I haven't quite been in the headspace for Shaman, and I recently suddenly came up with a load of short comic ideas; plus, it's always good to have finished, complete books under your belt, so I think these smaller projects are the way to go.

I am already currently releasing the first of these, a comic called "BEADS". You can keep up with the story here. The story is divided into 5 sections, so on every Monday for the next 5 weeks I will be releasing one part of it. The physical book and the PDF download are already available for preorder on my Store and Gumroad, respectively; the content will ship when I am done releasing all the sections, in March.
Thanks, and I hope everyone has a lovely end-of-winter! :)

Inking demo: Queen Elizabeth I for Inktober

Hey everyone, the process recording I made for my Inktober Elizabeth is up!! Check it out!!

It's my first time doing process recording for traditional work. I
think some improvements with the angle and a new tripod might help...
but it's a noble first attempt. ;P

Rose City Comic Con and Youtube

Hey everyone! Long time again. I've been so busy with my new store and Inktober and all that stuff that I haven't really had time to blog.... ahahahaha.... but here is a big fat series of updates. :)
I made a convention video when I traveled to Portland for Rose City Comic Con last month. In it, you get a little behind-the-scenes view of what it's like to be behind the table, and I talk about table setup and Portland things. Check it out!

Also if you're not already following me on Youtube, my channel is here. Be sure to follow me for drawing process videos and all kinds of art stuff!

New gaming work!

Hey everybody! Golden Abyss, one of the games I worked on for Cadillac Jack finally got released, so I can post what I did for it. Here is a feature symbol and splash that I made. I also uploaded a compilation of animations that I made for Golden Abyss, and the Funny Bunny money game released a couple of months ago. Check it out on Youtube! :)

Footnote: I didn't draw the crab. Did everything else though.

I'm in the process of preparing for Rose City Comic Con next month, as well as an art bazaar I applied to (don't know if I'm getting in, but why not make more products anyway?) Anyway, more about all that later. For anybody who will be in Portland, hope to see you there!

Heroes Con

And one more Heroes Con is now wrapped up!!
Did I mention that I drove to Heroes this year? Heroes is in Charlotte, North Carolina. I love in Austin, Texas right now. (The reason is I looked for flights too late so I couldn't afford to fly.) Eyup. That was an 18 HOUR DRIVE. Fun!

Here's a map of our little road trip. Damn this country is huge.

Anywho. Of course the con was as awesome as always, and made the insane journey worth it! It was great to see all my artist friends again and reconnect with the comics community. I heart you all.😍
Here was my Artist Alley table:

And here are some convention sketches that I did!

Thank you so, so much to everyone who came by, whether for a commission or print or just to talk. I had a wonderful time.

Here's me being a dork with some cool artists. ;D
 Till next year, Charlotte!

New Manga Studio comic demo

I made a new process video!
This is a recording of my process for one panel in a recent comic project. The comic was a scroll-style one-shot piece, that told the lore behind an indie game production I'm contributing to.

Gah, I really hope I'm getting better at this recording thing! >.<

The final comic (without text) is as below:

I'm very happy with how the paper texture worked out. The emperor's gold color coding was also a lucky gamble. I hope you like it!

Unavowed Sneak Peek

So, those of you who have known me for a few years may have heard of some original graphic novels that I've been working on in the background. Shaman Child was one of the stories; the other is something more mature, more serious.
I've spent a lot of time honing the story and getting into the character's heads; it just hadn't felt "right" and "finished", until recently. And I've finally started drawing the pages!
Though I hope to release this book online, I'm sad to say that it won't be available for a while, because I'm going to try a new scene-by-scene updating format instead of page-to-page. BUT, I may keep on posting sneak peeks along the way!
So have a look at some parts of the first chapter- no spoilers, guaranteed ;)

Uniforms and Fantasy Worlds #1

Here's a series of small illustrations that I'm starting!
I'm also selling these on my new Etsy shop... *hint hint* ;P Just a little venture that I'm trying out.
I've realized that since I work digitally so much nowadays, for both freelance and for my day job, I don't draw with traditional media much anymore. But my cartooning training started out with just pencil, ink, and paper, and I wnat to get back to that.

Hopefully I'll be able to do some more of this theme, and make it a series. :)

Cheers!

Game project on Steam Greenlight!

Aww yeah! An indie game that I have been doing concept art for for the past year and a half or so just launched on Steam Greenlight!
As of now (1/29)  this game is still live!

It's a beautiful, well done game, everyone. If you have a Steam account, please vote for it or at least check it out and give your judgement then. ;) I can say that the people on this project have put a lot into it. Everyone is a working professional in their field who contributes to this project after work and on weekends.

Hanako is (so far) a team-based PC game, with options for several different warrior classes. The story is set in Sengoku (Warring States) era Japan, and follows two battling samurai clans.

Here's some of the art that I've done for it. :)

Robot & spaceship & animation wheee!

Here's a space illustration that I've been working on for quite a while.
I made a little loop animation from it. It's simple, but I'm pretty happy with it; I haven't animated anything in years!
(If  the GIF doesn't work on Blogger, here's a link to the Tumblr post.)

Also, have a robot for bonus. ^_^

Alien marshland transport

More concept stuff today!
This is actually an old design I had lying around, but I realized that I still kind of like it; so I redid the colors for portfolio use.
(Also, I really need more samples of creature designs.. ha!)

P.S. Guys, I made a Carbonmade site especially dedicated to just concept art work! It is separate from my general gallery that is linked above, and further breaks down my concept work into environments, organics, mechanicals, and props (coming soon).
Check it out here~ http://reniesart.carbonmade.com/

Atlanta is getting really cold!! It is mid-August and we've had to wear hoodies for the last couple of days.
DO NOT LIKE. NOT AT ALL.
To my fellow Atlanta friends, take care!

January 3, 2013

You guys! I did a videoooo!

Ok here's my attempt at doing a drawing video. If I feel up to going through the entire set-up and tedious editing again I'll make more. But yeah we'll see.

It's just the inking process for one of those stickers I did. Cheers!

October 2, 2012

Hello, cold weather.

So yep, I'm down south in Atlanta and it's been cold and rainy on and off for a couple of weeks...

And I HATE IT.
Sucks for me.
Btw, I finished watching the entirety of Game of Thrones, over the span of something like 24 hours. (Is that even possible? There are only 20 episodes...) Time well spent. And yeah, I know I'm a little late. That's what happens when you've been too poor to afford TV until now, and have been procrastinating on connecting your Comcast service. 9_9

Here's some lecture sketches from a James Gurney demo I attended last week-

And some creature drawing I was inspired to do afterwards-
Killer modern velociraptors? How cute!

Plus some messy-ass sketchbook scans, just FYE.
Strange, despite all the comfort I have with digital, there's something about ink and paper than even a Cintiq can't beat. I do prefer to color digitally; but sketching traditionally is still my fave... :)

Old sketches from our (slightly pathetic) zoo to wrap it up-

Cheers! And happy October everybody!

Appa sketch

Trying to keep active with drawing some fanart, because apparently it's a nice attention-catcher hehe ;)

Appa here deserves more luve.

Coffee monster!

Hello everybody. I am suckage at updating, I know. But it's ok, because here's another sketch dump! :D

And a little marker piece. Got on a bit of a roll with markers after the Cheetara commission-

Also I have given my gallery a fancy revamp! Give it a look guys.
I've added a couple of brand new sections; one for storyboards, which is a body of work that for some stupid reason I've never put up, and another section for compiling sketches.
I nearly murdered my brain trying to figure out code for the hovering effect... but as long as it worked, that's fine! ^_^

Hope everyone is also having a great, sweltering, rainy summer.
Cheers.

Suuuuper old Moebius study

Something I did like, a year and a half ago? I can't remember?

Never posted it. This was part of my end-of-quarter report on a favorite sequential artist.  I remember I traded these original inks with June Brigman for one of her own beautiful pages- I totally got the better end of the deal! Teehe! :)
